Fraternal Benefits for Our Members

The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America has been in existence for for over a century, serving and meeting the needs of its members through our financial protection plans. We offer not only life insurance coverage but also offer annuities. The Federation has also helped many individuals and groups within the American Hungarian communities over the years. Just to mention an example, many of the existing Hungarian churches in the United States would not be standing today if it were not for the financial assistance that the Federation had given through mortgages. With these mortgages, the Federation assured that our people would have places to worship and celebrate their heritage.

Many young people today look to the Federation for assistance. When the time comes to buy a home, the Federation offers mortgages to its members. Also, higher educational needs are met through the numerous scholarships that the Federation provides.

Our nursing home, the Bethlen Home, in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, is committed to taking care of our elderly members. Also in Ligonier, we have a retirement community, as well as an assisted living facility, Ligonier Gardens.

In a world that seems to be more and more impersonal, it is good to know that the Federation is there to help its members, as well as others. There are many families enjoying the security of owning homes with peace of mind; there are pastors, doctors, and lawyers, who are serving their communities because the Federation helped and encouraged them with their education.

Some of our Member Benefits:

Youth Camps: HRFA gives financial support to young members to attend authorized summer camps. We believe it is important to give children the opportunity to build their self-esteem, acquire independence, and strengthen their Christian values.

Scholarship Program: HRFA grants a one-time scholarship (currently $750) to college students in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study, and who have been members of the HRFA for five years. Graduate students are also encouraged to apply.

Fraternal Activities: HRFA Branches, located in the 11 states where we are licensed, organize social, educational and cultural events. They also provide help to communities and individuals in time of need, such as during natural disasters.

Fraternity/Testvériség: HRFA publishes a quarterly magazine with this title. The magazine contains articles on our heritage, highlights noteworthy achievements of our fraternal family, and covers other items of interest to our members. The HRFA has also been publishing the Bethlen Almanac each year since 1922. It contains information on the Hungarian Community, American Hungarian Churches in the United States, and HRFA events and achievements. Both publications have articles in English and Hungarian.

Residential Mortgage Loans: HRFA offers mortgage loans to those who have been members of the HRFA for two years or more. Competitive rates, personalized service, and a streamlined application process are available.

Certificate Loans: If members are in need, they can apply for a low-rate loan against their whole life policy.

Disaster Fund: HRFA provides disaster relief to people and communities throughout the nation, as well as abroad, in times of need. Help has ranged from providing ambulances during World War II to providing funds to build an orphanage. The HRFA has a proud history of helping those in need.

Retirement Cottage Discount: HRFA offers a substantial discount to those members who purchase an equity interest in a retirement cottage at the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. These independent living cottages offer beautiful hillside and valley views, and are very affordable.

Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Care: The Bethlen Home and Ligonier Gardens provide elderly members with various levels of intermediate and skilled care in the beautiful Ligonier Valley.

In Memoriam Donations: HRFA donates $50.00 to a church or a charitable organization designated by the beneficiary in memory of the deceased member.
