Andrew J. Mihalcin

Branch 151
(March, 2008)

I am a junior at Allegheny College, majoring in Environmental Studies. Following my undergraduate studies, I plan to continue studying the field of Health, Safety, and the Environment at the graduate level. With that background, I am aspiring to have a career working to achieve maximum worker safety at the workplace and will strive to install sustainable environmental practices wherever I am employed.

I am very involved with my local community at school. As a member of the Allegheny College football team I have participated in a number of community service activities. This includes fixing up local parks, assisting in fundraising activities for furthering the research of diseases such as cancer, and acting as a mentor to young children in the community. I am also an active member of  the Healthy Homes, Healthy Children outreach program. We visit local schools and public venues and present both children and parents with useful information as to how they can make their home environments as safe and healthy as is possible.

When I was in high school I had the honor of becoming acquainted with Joe Fabri through the wrestling team. I enjoyed having Joe as a wrestling coach and mentor and soon became a member of the Hungarian Reformed Federation. Joe’s work ethic and Christian values have been a great influence on me and have taught me valuable life lessons. I would like to thank Joe for recommending me for the scholarship, as well as the HRFA for this generous contribution that will assist me in furthering my studies.
