Kristina Poznan

Branch 250
(February, 2008)

My name is Kristina Poznan and I am from Fairfield, CT. I have been an active member of the Hungarian-American community throughout my life. I attended Hungarian school in New York City and later at my present church, Calvin United Church of Christ. I participated annually in the Karácsony and Március 15 programs of the local Hungarian cultural organization and various events at my church. Since 1998 I have attended the Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp, sponsored by the Calvin Synod and Hungarian Reformed Church of America, every summer. HRYC is tremendous faith experience and a wonderful opportunity for fellowship with the youth from other Hungarian Reformed churches.
I am currently a senior at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, pursuing a major in History and obtaining my teaching certification. Although my focus of study is in American history, I have been able to explore Hungarian history in great depth. For one course I researched the effects of the Ottoman invasion of Hungary on the success of the Reformation there. In another course I researched the home life of the families of Hungarian mine-workers in Homestead, PA. The resonance of Hungarian and Hungarian-American history with my own family’s history has made it personally significant to study.
At Vassar I am the captain of the varsity fencing team, a consultant at the Writing Center, and a research assistant in History Department. I hope to teach U.S. history at the high school level after I graduate. Thank you to the HRFA for its dedication to higher education and expanding the opportunities of young members.
